THE Department of Justice (DOJ) is seen to ask for an extension of the 10-day deadline set by the Ombudsman to answer the complaint on the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
According to DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, the DOJ and other individuals cited in the complaint have already agreed to consolidate their answers, but each will still file separate counter affidavits.
Included in the complaint aside from Remulla were Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Rommel Marbil, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Chief Nicholas Torre III, and Special Envoy for Transnational Crime Markus Lacanilao.
They were included in a complaint filed by Senator Imee Marcos with the Ombudsman after a series of hearings by the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on the process involved in the arrest of the former president last March 11, 2025.
The group faces violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, Arbitrary Detention, Usurpation of Judicial Functions, Grave Misconduct, and Conduct Prejudicial to the Best Interest of the Public Service.
