THE Department of Justice (DOJ) filed formal charges of tax evasion worth P5.7 billion against the five Chinese nationals involved in a raid conducted recently by Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) agents in Valenzuela City and Bulacan last November 2024.
The DOJ is hoping that the court will immediately issue a warrant of arrest against the five Chinese nationals allegedly involved in the smuggling of fake cigarettes.
Aside from the evidence already submitted by the BIR, the tax obligations of the five Chinese already reached more than P5,764,000 based on the 1,000 master cases of illegal cigarettes that were confiscated by law enforcement authorities during the raid.
For his part, DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla praised the good work and victory of the BIR and further emphasized the importance of teamwork and cooperation between government agencies against crimes that can damage the national economy.
