A TOTAL of three regions in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao were tagged by the Department of Health (DOH) as being high risk.
This is because of the high number of COVID-19 cases, including a high utilization rate o occupancy of facilities and hospitals that takes care of those infected by the COVID-19 disease.
Dr. Alethea de Guzman, head of the DOH Epidemiology Division, pointed to Region 2, CARAGA at Region 6 as those under the high-risk category.
She explained that the utilization rates in these three regions are at 64 to 72 percent while the ICU utilization rate is at 63 to 84 percent.
Dr. de Guzman also pointed to six other areas that are under high up to critical risk category because of the high healthcare and ICU utilization rates.
The ICU occupancy rate in La Union has already reached 75.4 percent, 92.3 percent in Tarlac, 85.7 percent in Rizal, 78.3 percent in Cavite, and 75 percent in Benguet.
Although the ICU utilization rate in Agusan del Sur can still be considered as under the safe zone, its healthcare utilization rate, however, is at 72.6 percent.
Dr. de Guzman explained that the high healthcare utilization rate is the primary reason or basis for the issuance of stiffer quarantine restrictions in certain areas in the country.
