THE Department of Health (DOH) logged only 2,227 new COVID-19 infections today, higher than yesterday’s 1,474, according to the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, November 21, 2021.
It is the first time after 12 days that the number of new COVID-19 cases breached the 2,000-mark.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 2,826,410 cases.
Active cases, on the other hand, were at 21,101 cases today compared to yesterday’s 22,070 count. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.
Recoveries from COVID-19 today, meanwhile, went up to 3,162 from yesterday’s 2,565 count. Overall, COVID-19 recoveries in the country have reached a total of 2,758,235 cases.
The DOH also logged 175 deaths today, lower than yesterday’s 205 to bring the total COVID-19 deaths to 47,074.
Positivity rate today, meanwhile, moved down to 2.8 percent compared to yesterday’s 3.2 percent based on 39,874 people who were tested.
Around 61.2 percent of the cases were mild and asymptomatic, the DOH bulletin noted.
A total of 125 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 107 were recoveries and there were four deaths.
There were also 191 cases found to have tested negative and also were removed from the total cases count. Of these, 189 were recoveries.
However, 147 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.
Two laboratories were not operational on November 19, 2021 while two laboratories were not able to submit its data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the four laboratories contributed, on average, 1.5 percent of samples tested and 0.5 percent of positive individuals.
The agency continues to remind the public not to become complacent and continue to be vigilant against the threat of COVID-19 and make it a habit to follow the minimum public health standards and to always wear face masks, and also face shields whenever necessary, maintain physical distancing and washing of hands. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
