The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has issued a public warning against a circulating social media post falsely claiming that residents can receive ₱5,000 to ₱8,000 in cash assistance by filling out a barangay form and contacting unverified mobile numbers.
In an official statement, the DILG clarified that no such directive has been issued and emphasized that the mobile numbers listed in the post are not connected to any legitimate government program.
The department stressed that the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) — the government’s cash subsidy initiative — is administered solely by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through official and validated channels. The DILG’s role in the SAP is limited to local monitoring and no such financial assistance program is currently active.
“This information is false and misleading,” the agency said. “We urge the public not to fall for these deceptive tactics. Do not provide personal information or sign documents based solely on unverified social media posts.”
The DILG also warned that spreading false information or fraudulently using the name of the agency is a punishable offense under the Cybercrime Prevention Act and other relevant laws. Legal action will be taken against individuals or groups who attempt to mislead or exploit the public.
Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious posts or communications to the proper authorities.
