911 test call leads to arrest of stabbing suspect in Quezon City

QUEZON CITY, Philippines — A test call to the Enhanced Emergency Hotline 911 unexpectedly resulted in the arrest of a stabbing suspect, proving the effectiveness of the system recently reinforced by the Philippine National Police (PNP) under the leadership of PNP Chief PGen Nicolas Torre III.

According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the Holy Spirit Police Station 14 (PS14), led by PLTCOL Jefry Gamboa, responded swiftly to a 911 call made on August 5, 2025, by a concerned citizen. While the call was initially intended to “test if the hotline really worked”, it prompted further investigative action that led to the capture of alias “Eljimm,” the suspect in a stabbing incident that occurred a day earlier.

The Incident

Initial investigations revealed that on August 4 at around 12:09 PM, inside a barbershop along Diego Silang Street, Brgy. Pasong Tamo, the suspect—Eljimm, 27, a local resident—returned to the shop roughly 30 minutes after getting a haircut and stabbed the 43-year-old barber with intent to kill. The victim was rushed to Quezon City General Hospital and later reported the incident to the police.

Community Coordination and the 911 Call

PS14 immediately launched a manhunt in coordination with Barangay Pasong Tamo officials, conducting backtracking and surveillance operations. The turning point came when, at 8:30 AM on August 5, a woman—later identified as the victim’s wife—dialed 911 to ask about the status of the case. She admitted to officers that her call was only a test of the emergency hotline system.

Unbeknownst to her, the call triggered further police momentum that ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest at around 1:57 PM the same day.

Suspect with Prior Criminal Record

Using the Investigation Solution Automatic Verification (ISAV) system, police discovered that “Eljimm” had a prior criminal record for murder in May 2022. Authorities are now preparing to file a case of Attempted Murder before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

Police Commendation

PCOL Randy Glenn Silvio, DDDA/OIC of QCPD, praised the decisive actions of PS14 and emphasized the importance of community cooperation:

“This incident shows how timely reporting and quick response can lead to justice. Sa tulong ng publiko, mas napapabilis ang ating pagtugon, alinsunod sa direktiba ni CPNP, PGEN Nicolas Torre III, at ni RD, NCRPO, PMGEN Anthony Aberin, sa ilalim ng Swift and Responsive Public Service at Triple A Program.”

The incident underscores the critical role of the enhanced 911 hotline and highlights how even a seemingly harmless test call can lead to real-time public safety results.
