THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) have started to destroy almost one million defective and unusable ballots and other accountable forms this Saturday.
The ceremony related to the destruction of the defective ballots was done in the presence of media, political parties and other observers at the National Printing Office in Quezon City.
According to Comelec Commissioner George Erwin Garcia, the destroyed ballots, aside from having smudges, wrong color and size and other defects, did not pass the poll body’s quality control.
On the other hand, Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco that out of the overall 933,311 ballots destroyed, 586,988 were defective official ballots and 346,323 are roadshow ballots or those used by the Comelec during the poll body’s voters’ education campaign.
It will take at least three days to finish destroying the ballots, Laudiangco said.
Overall, the Comelec was able to print 67,442,616 official ballots for the May 9 national and local elections.
