LUMAGDA ng isang “data sharing agreement” ang Department of Education (DepEd) at ang Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II) upang simulan ang comprehensive national assessment ng performance ng education sector sa Pilipinas.
Ang paglagda sa kasunduan sa alignment meeting na ginanap sa Senado ay pinangunahan nina DepEd Undersecretary Jose Arturo de Castro at EDCOM II Executive Director Dr. Karol Mark Yee.
Sinaksihan ito nina Vice President at Education Secretary Sara Duterte, Senate Basic Education Chairman Sherwin Gatchalian, at ang counterpart nito sa Kamara na si Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo.
Kinilala ni Duterte ang pagsisikap ng Komisyon na itulak ang mga reporma upang matugunan ang krisis sa edukasyon at mapabuti ang sistema ng edukasyon sa bansa.
Sa kanyang pambungad na talumpati, binigyang-diin ng Bise Presidente ang MATATAG agenda ng DepEd na nagsisilbing gabay ng ahensya sa paglutas ng mga hamon sa edukasyon.
“In order to ensure quality, accessible, relevant, and liberating basic education for our learners, we need to strengthen and sustain our collective efforts as a nation. We still have a long way to go. We need to be resilient. We need to do more,” saad niya.
Iniharap din ng EDCOM II ang 28 priorities nito na nakasentro sa Early Childhood Care and Development, Basic Education, Teacher Education, at Governance and Finance.
Kasama ni Duterte sa pagpupulong sina DepEd Office of Secretary chief of staff Michael Wesley Poa pati na ang ibang mga Undersecretary at Assistant Secretary ng kagawaran.
Ang mga opisyal ng EDCOM II na dumalo ay sina Sen. Sonny Angara at Sen. Pia Cayetano, Rep. Mark Go, Rep. Kiko Benitez, at Rep. Khalid Dimaporo.
Ang mga miyembro ng Advisory Council na dumalo rin sa pulong ay sina Fr. Bienvenido Nebres, SJ, Rhodora Angela Ferrer, Maria Olivia Lucas, Dr. Maria Cynthia Rose Bautista, Dr. Chito Salazar, Alfredo Ayala, Irene Isaac, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, at Dr. Milwilda Guevarra.
