COVID-19 update: Another record high for new number of COVID-19 cases

On Day Five of the Enhanced Community Quarantine, the Department of Health (DOH) registered 15,310 new COVID-19 cases today, according to its latest bulletin issued this afternoon.

Also, DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin #384 showed there were 434 recoveries while an additional 17 have died.

The number of COVID-19 cases is now at a 771,497 total.

Overall, 19.9 percent (153,809) are active cases, 78.3 percent (604,368) have recovered, and 1.73 percent (13,320) have died.

However, the DOH reported that last March 31, it was able to report only 6,128 new cases due an issue regarding the COVIDKaya database. After system checks, validation and deduplication, 3,709 additional cases were confirmed, which were then added to today’s cases, thus hiking the total to 15,310.

The DOH also assured that they have resolved this issue and measures were put into place to prevent the same issue from happening again.

But a quick computation would reveal that even without the unreported 3,709 cases last Wednesday, single-day total of new COVID-19 cases for Friday would still amount to 11,601 new cases, still a record-high yield.

With the spike of COVID-19 cases in the country, the DOH stressed that strict implementation of the Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat and Reintegrate (PDITR) strategy of Local Government Units, together with continuous adherence to the Minimum Health Protocols of the public, can help cut down COVID-19 transmission.
