COVID-19 update: 6,979 new cases added today; recoveries went up again

A total of 6,979 new COVID-19 cases were added to the total case count, according to the Department of Health’s (DOH) latest bulletin issued today.

This brings to 1,094,849 the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country, with 63,376, or 5.8 percent, tagged as active cases.

There were 10,179 individuals recorded today as recoveries, bringing to 1,013,204, the total number who recovered from the dreaded disease.

In terms of deaths, 170 people were reported to have died today, for a total of 18,269 who succumbed to the infection,

The DOH noted that out of the total reported cases today, 6,585 or 94 percent occurred within the recent 14 days (April 25 – May 8, 2021). The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR (1,966 or 30 percent), Region 4-A (1,238 or 19 percent) and Region 3 (923 or 14 percent).

Around 15 duplicates were removed from the total case count, with 13 tagged as recoveries.

Meanwhile, 122 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
