COVID-19 daily case average rose to 173 from May 16 to May 22

THE Department of Health (DOH) reported that from May 16 up to May 22, 2022, a total of 1,214 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the country.

This means the daily average of new COVID-19 cases in the country for that week rose to 173, which was 9.9 percent higher than the average registered from May 9 to May 15.

Among the new cases, 14 were recorded as severe and critical. Meanwhile, there were six who succumbed to the disease, with three fatalities recorded from May 9-22, 2022.

Around 718 cases were declared severe and critical patients who are admitted in hospitals due to COVID-19 as of May 22, 2022. Out of the 2,812 ICU beds allotted for patients with COVID-19, 432 or 15.4 percent were occupied, while 17.4 percent of the 23,697 non-ICU COVID-19 beds are currently being utilized.

In terms of vaccination, more than 69 million individuals or 76.71 percent of the target population are already vaccinated against COVID-19, while 13.8 million have already received their booster shots.

On the other hand, 6.7 million senior citizens or 77.22 percent of the target A2 population have received their primary series.
