THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it will resolve the disqualification cases filed against ACT-CIS Rep. Erwin Tulfo before the 2025 mid-term polls, according to poll body chief George Garcia.
Tulfo, who currently leads the senatorial race based on pre-election surveys, is facing two disqualification cases, one of which was filed last Tuesday on the basis of moral turpitude that stemmed from his libel conviction, including issues about his citizenship.
Aside from Tulfo, also facing disqualification cases are his brother Ben who is also a senatorial candidate, and three other members of the Tulfo clan on accusations of trying to put up a political dynasty.
Garcia noted that their promise, just like in nuisance cases, is that they will resolve all disqualification cases before the elections. He added that the two disqualification cases versus Tulfo were not consolidated.
He explained that the petitioners and their accusations and allegations were different.
Meanwhile, Garcia pointed out that the Comelec was able to achieve an 84-percent disposal rate of cases, the highest in the poll body’s history.
