MAGIGING isa sa mga katuwang ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ang tech giant na Google Philippines sa paggabay sa mga botante na mag-fact-check ng impormasyon tungkol sa May 9 polls.
Ang Google at ang video-sharing platform na YouTube ay magsasama ng mga panel ng impormasyon sa halalan na magpapakita ng mga resulta kapag naghanap ang users ng pangalan ng mga kandidato.
Isasama nito ang impormasyon sa mga kandidato, kanilang mga partidong pampulitika, posisyon na kanilang tinatakbuhan, at iba pa.
Magkakaroon din ito ng “how to vote” information panel at mga link sa website ng Comelec.
“Part of Comelec’s mission is to empower voters with accurate, relevant, and timely information. We laud Google for taking the important steps in helping Filipinos access authoritative information that is essential for an informed electorate,” sinabi ni Comelec Education and Information Department head at spokesperson, Director James Jimenez, sa virtual press briefing kahapon (Martes).
Ayon naman kay Emily Moxley, vice president para sa product management ng YouTube, idinagdag nila ang mga feature dahil na rin sa alam nito na ang pulitika ay maaaring mapasailalim sa maling impormasyon at ang pagkakaroon ng authoritative information sources ay napakahalaga.
“Over the last few years, we’ve made deep investments to make YouTube a more reliable source for news while also maintaining the openness of the platform. Our work is ongoing and we are committed to making YouTube a vibrant and safe community for a healthy political discourse as well as help protect the integrity of elections,” ayon kay Moxley sa nasabing briefing.
Ipinaalam din ng Google na mula Pebrero 2021 hanggang Enero 2022, mahigit 400,000 video na na-upload mula sa Pilipinas ang inalis sa YouTube dahil sa paglabag sa mga alituntunin ng komunidad.
“Fighting misinformation is important to Google and it takes the whole of society working together to address it. We will continue to forge meaningful partnerships with the media and community groups to help people access the right information so they can make an informed vote in the upcoming elections,” ayon naman kay Google Asia Pacific News Lab lead Irene Jay Liu.
