THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) changed the system to be used for the final debate among presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
This was announced by Comelec Commissioner George Garcia, who said that based on the recommendation of the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), they will use the panel interview style when facing each of the candidates.
From Monday, May 2, up to Friday, May 6, 2022, each of the candidates for the two elective positions will undergo a one-hour panel-type interview.
The session will be pre-taped and will not be done live anymore in consideration of the complicated schedules of the candidates.
Garcia said that the candidates may face the panel interview either via virtual or face-to-face, and the interview session will then be released to the public. The final decision as to who will conduct the editing of the interviews rests on the poll body.
However, the presidential candidate and his/her running mate may opt to face the panel interview either on personal or virtual basis.
The Comelec official said they will release the guidelines about the panel interviews tomorrow, and they will send the advisory to the candidates by tonight.
