When Grab was allowed by the government to resume its ride-hailing operations during the community quarantine period, GrabCar and GrabTaxi returned but only cashless transactions were accepted.

Now, the company is introducing a solution to help all Filipino commuters to adopt cashless payments and embrace the new way of paying in their daily lives. As the entire country looks toward a safe and sustainable economic recovery, the opening of public transportation is key for our citizens to be back on what they are doing prior to the lockdowns — performing essential activities.

“With many of our kababayans required to physically be present in their workspaces and offices, transportation remains key in effectively driving safe and sustainable economic recovery for our communities and our country. Through this innovation, we hope to help ease the cashless barrier for our commuters by enjoining our driver-partners to not only provide a safe and reliable means of transportation, but to also help more Filipino commuters embrace cashless payment, and unlock the many benefits that await them with GrabPay,” according to Ronald Roda, Grab Philippines Head of Transport and Shared Services.

Come November 2020, the updated version of the Grab app will include a “Cash-in with Driver” — allowing cash-paying commuters to enjoy safe and reliable GrabCar services by:

  • activating their GrabPay wallets during the ride;
  • paying cash to their drivers; and
  • receive their change credited to their GrabPay wallets.

With GrabCar drivers spearheading the cashless movement through Cash-in with Driver, cash-paying commuters can easily transition towards cashless and unlock the many benefits that GrabPay has to offer — from GrabRewards points that can be used to save on Grab transactions, dedicated deals and promotions, as well as safe and seamless cashless payments across GrabPay’s wide array acceptance partners.

The Cash-in with Driver feature will be available on the Grab app by November 2020 for GrabCar 2-seater and 4-seater in Metro Manila, GrabBayanihan Car, GrabCar 2-Seater in Cebu, and Pampanga, and soon on GrabTaxi.
