A CARGO vessel caught fire at sea northwest of Limbones Island in Nasugbu, Batangas, on Sunday, March 30.
In a report shared by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), BRP Boracay (FPB-2401) and its crew quickly responded to the fire incident aboard MV CastPhill XV that occurred around 4:27 am.
A total of seven crew, including the vessel’s captain who sustained minor injuries, were successfully rescued by the PCG.
The rescued crew members were identified as Darwin Putic (Captain), 46 years old; Ronald Rafol, 42 years old; Harold Gamos, 45 years old; Romnick Sulano, 34 years old; Reyden Gamos, 37 years old; Manuel Munez, 48 years old; and Ronald Danao, 58 years old.
At around 7:35 am, Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Maragondon personnel were able to rescue an additional five crew members, who were immediately dispatched to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
They are crew members Lawrence Faeldo, 38 years old; Elfren Fabello, 35 years old; Marcelo Oftana, Jr., 32 years old; Arturo Ysug, 49 years old; and Limuel Fababier, 45 years old.
The BRP Boracay then brought the crew to Pier 15 South Harbor in Manila and were turned over to the Coast Guard Medical Service (CGMED) for medical evaluation.
PCG Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan again reiterated the PCG’s promise of ensuring safety in Philippine seas and to provide quick response to any emergency at sea.
