THE Commission on Elections (Comelec), which stands as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) said it will resume its session on May 25 to canvass the votes for party-list groups.
The NBOC will convene starting 3 pm on May 25 at the Philippine International Convention Center one day after the holding of the special elections in Lanao del Sur.
According to Atty. John Rex Laudiangco, Comelec spokesperson, they need to give way to the special elections since its results may still affect the voting for party-list groups.
Laudiangco said that once the canvassing ends, they would be able to proclaim the winning party-list groups either by May 26 or May 27.
A party-list group who will garner at least 2 percent of the overall party-list vote is guaranteed to get a congressional seat, with at least three seats to be allowed for a party-list group.
Laudiangco added that as prescribed by law, at least 20 percent of the members of the House of Representatives are party-list, which means the leading 63 party-list groups, even those whose votes did not receive the mandated two percent, will be proclaimed.
