THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) today identified two or more bank account holders that were used as destination accounts to deposit money from BDO Unibank clients via unauthorized bank transfers.

According to BSP Technology Risk and Innovation Supervision Department Director Melchor Plabasan, he said that based on initial forensic investigation, the bank accounts used for the Mark Nagoyo hacking of online banking accounts were only created last October.

These bank accounts were used to deposit stolen funds that were taken from BDO account holders.

However, Plabasan clarified that those responsible may not be bank employees themselves.

He said that BDO Unibank and Union Bank are ready to file charges against individuals who allowed their bank accounts to be used for the illegal activity.

Plabasan said they are also trying to find out if the banks were unable to implement what was expected by the BSP in terms of strengthening of cybersecurity and anti-money laundering measures
