BOC Port of Subic intercepts container vans with waste materials

TWO containers with suspected waste materials were intercepted by the operatives of Bureau of Customs in Port of Subic on Wednesday.

The said containers were about to exit the Subic Bay International Terminal Corp. when the Customs authorities prevented it from being dispatched.

According to BOC Port of Subic, the shipment arrived from the United States and were declared as American Old Corrugated Cartons for Repulping, however, further examinations of the shipment revealed that it contained prohibited waste materials which were illegal imported. An inventory is being conducted to ascertain the volume and actual contents of the shipment.

Investigation on the possible violations of Section 1400 of RA 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) as well as other pertinent environmental laws are being readied against the consignee.

According to BOC Port of Subic Collector Atty. Maritess Martin, as the world shifts to promote an environmentally friendly approach, the Bureau of Customs remains committed in enforcing strict border security and advocating environment protection.
