President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday delivered a message in time of divisiveness.
In his massage coinciding with the 157th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio, Dutertre urged Filipinos to emulate Andres Bonifacio’s patriotism.
According to the President, Bonifacio’s legacy should serve as an inspiration for Filipinos to overcome challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
History, as stipulated in reference books, had Bonifacio as the man who led the armed struggle against Spanish colonial rule.
“Now, more than ever, as we overcome the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic, as we remember his life and deeds, may the values he fought for inspire us all to become worthy heirs of a just, progressive and inclusive society that he envisioned more than a century ago,” the President said during the Bonifacio Day rites in Caloocan City.
“Fueled by Bonifacio’s extraordinary courage and determination, let us surmount the many challenges ahead and secure a much better and brighter future for every Filipino,” he added.
Duterte, represented by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana during the ceremony, delivered his message via a video that was played on the big screen that was set-up at the shrine.
