Average daily COVID-19 cases shoot up to 1,352 — DOH

THE Department of Health (DOH) logged a total of 9,465 new COVID-19 cases during the week of May 1-7, 2023.

This means the daily average of new COVID-19 cases for the period was at 1,352, which is 112 percent higher than the previous week, or from April 24-30, 2023.

Of all the new cases, 50 are severe in critical condition, and a total of 9 cases succumbed to the virus, although zero deaths were recorded from April 24 to May 7, 2023.

On May 7, around 410 cases were declared in severe and critical condition and were admitted to COVID-19 hospitals. Out of the 2,097 ICU beds for COVID-19 patients, 346 or 16.5 percent are occupied, while 3,766 or 21.2 percent of the 17,758 non-ICU COVID-19 beds are currently being utilized.

More than 78 million individuals or 100.44 percent of the target population are already vaccinated against COVID-19 while 23 million have already received their booster shots.

On the other hand, 7.1 million senior citizens or 82.16 percent of the target A2 population have already received their primary series.
