A TOP Palace official confirmed that the Philippines will remain under Alert Level 2 up to the yearend.
Acting Presidential Spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said on Wednesday that the country will remain under Alert Level 2 until December 31.
The announcement was made despite a continued decline in the number of new COVID-19 cases in the country and the possible entry of a highly transmissible Omicron variant.
As of December 15, the Department of Health (DOH) recorded only 237 cases, while the DOH and the Philippine Genome Center confirmed the presence of two cases with the Omicron variant in the country, a Returning Overseas Filipino and a Nigerian national,
Both are now at the isolation facility of the Bureau of Quarantine.
The DOH earlier said that it would be more prudent to maintain Alert Level 2 status for the Philippines,
