THE World Health Organization (WHO) warned it is possible that the number of active COVID-19 cases in the country may hit 300,000 by the middle of May.

This was the warning given by WHO Representative to the Philippines Dr. Rajendra Yadav, if the government will be too less restrictive and people will ignore health and safety protocols against COVID-19.

During the Laging Handa public briefing, Dr. Yadav said he is already seeing the numbers and said it would be a big challenge to prove it will not reach that situation and it will not happen.

Dr. Yadav mentioned the situation in South Korea where about 600,000 new COVID-19 cases were recorded each day, a number that is too much.

But what is good for the Philippines is that Filipinos are among the best when it comes to compliance with regard to wearing face masks, which Dr. Yadav said must continue.

The WHO Philippine representative also insisted that COVID-19 vaccination numbers should still be increased, particularly in barangays and provinces.
