New border control measures not recommended — OCTA

EVEN with the rise in COVID-19 cases in other neighboring countries, restrictions and border controls and the implementation of lockdowns is not recommended by the OCTA Research Group.

During the Laging Handa public briefing, Dr. Guido David of the OCTA Research Group said that though there is an increase in COVID-19 cases among countries in Asia, it is not yet time to impose a new round of border control.

Accoridng to David, it is only now that the economy is recovering so it would not look good and wise if our borders will again be shut down to foreign travelers.

What is important is that foreign travelers that enter the country are fully vaccinated and boosted, including our fellow Filipinos and compliance to health and safety protocols are maintained.

Meanwhile, Professor Ranjit Rye, also from OCTA Research, said they have no recommendation of a lockdown after the elections since the possible surge in cases in the next two weeks can be avoided, aside from the fact that COVID-19 vaccines have become better, including the COVID-19 response methods of both national annd local government units.
