Discovery Capital Secures BDO Credit Facility to Expand Lending Across the Philippines

Discovery Capital Finance Corp. (DCFC) has secured a credit facility from BDO Unibank Inc., a move the non-bank lender said will strengthen its capacity to expand financing services nationwide and support the credit needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The agreement provides Discovery Capital with additional funding that the company plans to use to broaden its lending operations in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, particularly in regional markets where businesses often face limited access to financing.

While the financial terms of the credit line were not disclosed, Discovery said the partnership combines BDO’s funding capacity with its own technology-driven lending platform to speed up loan processing and improve access to capital for businesses outside major urban centers.

Discovery Capital President and Chief Executive Officer Diosdado Salang Jr. described the agreement as a key milestone in the company’s expansion strategy.

Through this partnership with the country’s number one bank, we can further cater to and expand our market throughout the country,” Salang said. He added that the additional funding will support the establishment of more satellite offices and allow the company to reach underserved communities with its lending products.

The company said it aims to open 10 additional offices nationwide by 2027 while also expanding into the real estate lending market.

Discovery Capital currently operates a fully digital loan processing system that covers customer applications, credit assessment, and loan administration. The company said the automated platform enables faster loan approvals while maintaining its risk management and compliance standards.

According to the lender, its expansion strategy is focused on improving access to financing for SMEs, which account for more than 99 percent of registered businesses in the Philippines and are among the country’s largest sources of employment.

Many small businesses, particularly those located outside major cities, continue to face challenges in obtaining timely financing for expansion, equipment purchases, and working capital requirements.

Discovery Capital said the new credit facility is expected to help address those financing gaps by increasing the availability of loans for entrepreneurs in provincial areas.

The company also emphasized that investments in technology, governance, and risk management have supported its growth and enabled it to secure partnerships with major financial institutions.

For BDO, the agreement forms part of its continued support for business financing and financial inclusion initiatives by providing funding to lending institutions that serve broader segments of the market.

Both companies said they expect the partnership to contribute to regional business growth, job creation, and wider access to financing as lending activities expand across the country.
