THE Philippines is set to achieve a significant milestone in technological advancement as its newest internet satellite, AGILA, is launched into space aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
The launch is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. and will be broadcast live on X: https://x.com/SpaceX.

Developed by Astranis in collaboration with Philippine-based Orbits Satellite Corporation, the 400-kilogram AGILA satellite aims to enhance internet connectivity across the country, particularly in underserved and remote areas.
Once launched, the satellite is expected to be fully operational by the first or second quarter of 2025.
AGILA is a product of a partnership forged during a 2023 meeting between President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Astranis officials.
During the meeting, the construction of an additional internet satellite was also announced, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving nationwide connectivity and bridging the digital divide.
This launch marks another step in the Philippines’ efforts to leverage satellite technology for better communication, education, and economic development, especially in geographically isolated regions.
