IN response to the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah “Mina” F. Pangandaman has approved the release of P875 million to replenish the Quick Response Fund (QRF) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The funding, which is part of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRM) Fund under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), will help ensure that the DSWD has the necessary resources to assist communities affected by natural calamities.
Secretary Pangandaman emphasized the importance of the DSWD’s role in disaster relief and recovery, particularly during the ongoing string of natural disasters.
“We know the vital role of the DSWD in responding to the needs of our fellow Filipinos, especially with the succession of calamities. When they requested to replenish their QRF, we immediately acted to comply with President Marcos’ directive to ensure we have funds readily available for any disaster,” Pangandaman said.
According to the 2024 GAA, the NDRRM Fund can be used to replenish the QRF of implementing agencies when their balances fall below 50%, subject to DBM approval. As of October 30, 2024, DSWD’s QRF had dropped to P557.77 million, which is 31.87% of its current appropriation, triggering the need for replenishment.
The approved funding will allow the DSWD to continue its disaster response operations, including the procurement of Family Food Packs and Non-Food Items for relief stockpiling and the implementation of Cash for Work programs for families affected by Typhoon Julian in Region I.
“This funding will be crucial in ensuring that DSWD can continue providing much-needed assistance to the families affected by the typhoon,” Pangandaman added.
The prompt approval and release of this funding will help facilitate the swift delivery of aid and early recovery services to affected communities, supporting the government’s ongoing disaster management efforts.
