THE newly constructed Quezon City Jail Facility in Payatas subject of Ceremonial Turn-Over, rises on a 2.4 hectares of land donated by the Quezon City Local Government Unit to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
The new QCJ Facility is home to a 5-storey housing accommodation composed of 3 buildings with a total of 440 cells with 47 sqm jail cell size per 10 PDL occupant.
Each cell is provided with adequate water, entry of light and air as per the standard requirement of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Non-contact Visitation area, Laundry area, Livelihood training, sports and recreational areas and medical infirmary were also provided for the humane safekeeping and development of the PDL.
Administrative building and billeting for personnel were also integrated in the facility.
The new jail has an ideal capacity of 4,400 PDL with a total cell area of 20,880 sqm. Based on UN Minimum Standard, the ideal living area of a PDL is 4.7 sqm.
Meanwhile, the Quezon City Jail Facility located at EDSA cor Kamuning Road, is currently congested at 1,247%.
The construction of the new QCJ facility started in 2018 with a total project cost of Php 1,397,103,730.56.
Meanwhile, the QC LGU has allotted funding in the amount of 39M for the 1st phase of the perimeter fence construction to be followed by Phase 2 project fund for perimeter fence completion amounting to 100M.
