IKINUKONSIDERA na rin ng samahan ng mga manufacturer ng de-latang sardinas na magtaas ng presyo bunsod ng walang tigil na oil price hike.
Makikipagpulong bukas ang Canned Sardines Association of the Philippines (CSAP) sa Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) upang talakayin ang posibleng pagtataas ng halaga ng kanilang bentahan lalo na’t may naka-amba na panibagong big-time oil price increase sa susunod na linggo.
Ayon sa CSAP, hindi malayong magmahal na rin ang halaga ng produksyon ng sardinas.
“We understand that the DTI needs to do a balancing act for both the manufacturers and the consumers. However, we are concerned that another round of fuel price hikes would drive up production costs by 3.5 percent,” pahayag ni CSAP executive director Francisco “Bombit” Buencamino.
Sinabi pa ni Buencamino na ang pag-apruba ng DTI ng suggested retail price (SRP) bulletin ay maituturing na “price control” ngunit wala aniyang batayan sa ngayon upang ipatupad ang nasabing hakbang.
“The SRP is recommendatory in nature, so it should not be limiting the industry to implement sound price adjustments, especially today when the odds are working against us,” diin ni Buencamino.
“There is no provision in the Price Act requiring retailers to wait for the agency’s prior approval before implementing any price increase,” dagdag nito.
