THE Philippine National Police (PNP) today reported one dead, three hurt and one is missing due to the onslaught of Typhoon Odette in Visaya and Mindanao.
Based on initial reports reaching the PNP Command Center in Camp Crame, Police Col. Roderick Alba, PNP Spokesperson, said one died and three were hurt in Northern Mindanao, and one is missing in Western Visayas.
There are no details yet as to the exact place where the death, hurt and missing were recorded.
Relatedly, Alba said 16 individuals were rescued in Eastern Visayas while 23 were saved in Northern Mindanao at the height of the typhoon.
It was learned that 3,649 police disaster response personnel were deployed by the PNP in typhoon-affected regions, with 7,335 standby support force for rapid deployment when necessary.
It is their job to assist the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the local disaster risk reduction and management council, and local government units in various operations and response to people in need of assistance.
According to the PNP, a total of 37,665 families or about 119,954 individuals were evacuated because of the typhoon.
These are from the Bicol region; Western, Central and Eastern Visayas; Western and Northern Mindanao; and Caraga region.
