The Gilas Pilipinas Women, the country’s women’s national basketball team, left for Jordan on Tuesday night, to compete in the 2021 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) special assistant to the president, Ryan Gregorio, said that the team is comprised of 12 players and seven staff.
Veterans Afril Bernardino and Janine Pontejos are tasked to guide the team in this important competition.
Other members of the squad are Andrea Tongco, Ria Nabalan, France Mae Cabinbin, Khate Castillo, Clare Castro, Mar Prado , Ella Fajardo, Camille Clarin, Kristine Cayabyab, and Karl Ann Pingol.
Together with Patrick Aquino as head coach, Julie Amos and Jose Ramos Garcia as assistant coaches, Paolo Gorospe as team trainer, Dr. Jessie Lazaro as team doctor, Rassel Urag, physical therapist, and Leonardo Felisilda, utility, will also be joining the team.
Early this month, the team set up a training camp in Lipa, Batangas to prepare for the Asia Cup, where our Gilas Women were drawn with Australia, China, and Chinese Taipei under Division A.
Jack Animam, the team’s main player, will not be able to join the team as she is currently in Serbia for her training.
