A POLICEMAN assigned in CALABARZON is the latest COVID-19 fatality of the police force raising the total number of deaths to 109.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar said that in a report by the PNP Health Service (PNP-HS), the 37-year-old police master sergeant died on September 9 due to Pneumonia and Acute Respiratory failure secondary to COVID-19.
On August 28, the cop experienced mild symptoms of COVID-19 and immediately underwent an RT-PCR test which yielded a positive result.
On August 30, he complained of difficulty in breathing and was immediately transferred to a nearby hospital.
On September 9, at about 3 a.m., he was declared dead by his attending physician.
Records also revealed that the fatality has hypertension and received his first dose of vaccine last August 6, 2021.
“Taos pusong pakikiramay po ang aking ipinapaabot sa pamilya ng ating pulis na namatay at nangangako po tayo ng anumang tulong sa kanila,” Eleazar said.
As of September 12, the PNP-HS also recorded 159 recoveries among the infected personnel bringing the total recoveries to 34,303 while 176 new cases were noted bringing the total cases to 37,067 with 2,655 active cases.
Further, the PNP has 117,530 or 52.77 percent of its personnel are now fully vaccinated while 92,362 or 41.47 percent have already received their first dose of vaccine. With this, there are only 12,809 or 5.75 percent of police personnel who are not yet vaccinated.
