THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 12,439 new COVID-19 cases today, slightly higher than yesterday’s 12,021 total, according to the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, August 12, 2021.
The steep rise in new COVID-19 cases may also be attributed to the spike in Delta variant cases in the country. The DOH, the UP-Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC) and UP -National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH) detected an additional 177 cases of the highly transmissible Delta variant.
Positivity rate went up further to 22.5 percent with 57,016 people who were tested.
With the additional cases today, the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country went past 1.7 million with 1,700,363, while active cases rose further to 87,663 from yesterday’s 81,399 count. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.
A total of 165 COVID-19 deaths were registered today, which is higher than yesterday’s 154 total. The total number of COVID-19 fatalities is now at 29,539.
The DOH also logged 6,090 new recoveries from the COVID-19 disease today, lower than the 9,591 recoveries posted yesterday.
Currently, there are now 1,583,161 individuals listed as total recoveries.
Majority, or 96.5 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.
A total of 116 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 108 were recoveries.
Also, three cases earlier tagged as recoveries were validated as active cases, and 85 cases tagged earlier as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.
All laboratories were operational on August 10, 2021 while two laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the two non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 0.2 percent of samples tested and 0.1 percent of positive individuals.
The agency continues to remind the public to ensure their safety and to strictly observe safety protocols and to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
