New highs posted by DOH in today’s COVID-19 case bulletin

THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 10,623 new COVID-19 cases today, a new high after several months, significantly higher than yesterday’s 8,127 total, according to the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, August 6, 2021.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country at 1,638,345, while active cases rose to 74,297 from yesterday’s 66,895 count. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

A total of 247 COVID-19 deaths were registered today, another new high, though only slightly higher than yesterday’s total of 196 deaths. The total number of COVID-19 fatalities is now at 28,673.

The DOH also logged 3,127 new recoveries from the COVID-19 disease today, lower than the 4,343 recoveries posted yesterday.

Currently, there are now 1,535,375 individuals listed as total recoveries.

Meanwhile, positivity rate was at another high of 18.4 percent with 58,372 people who were tested.

Majority, or 96 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.

A total of 94 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 8 were recoveries.

Aside from that, there were also ninr cases earlier tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, while 150 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

One laboratory was not operational on August 4, 2021 while five laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the six laboratories contributed, on average, 1.7 percent of samples tested and 1.3 percent of positive individuals.

The DOH is already seeing the rise in COVID-19 cases and this is caused by a combination of various factors, such as not following the minimum public health standards, non-compliance with the prevent-detect-isolate/quarantine-reintegrate strategies, massive people movement, and the presence of other variants of concern, most notably the Delta Variant.

The agency continues to remind the public to ensure their safety and to strictly observe safety protocols and to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible.

The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
