THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 8,127 new COVID-19 cases today, which is slightly higher than yesterday’s 7,342 total, according to the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, August 5, 2021.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country at 1,627,816, while active cases rose to 66,895 from yesterday’s 63,171 count. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.
A total of 196 COVID-19 deaths were registered today, which is more than double of yesterday’s total of 90 deaths. The total number of COVID-19 fatalities is now at 28,427.
The DOH also logged 4,343 new recoveries from the COVID-19 disease today, lower than the 7.285 recoveries posted yesterday.
Currently, there are now 1,532,494 individuals listed as total recoveries.
Meanwhile, positivity rate was at a high of 17.3 percent with 56,035 people who were tested.
Majority, or 95.6 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.
A total of 135 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 125 were recoveries.
Aside from that, there were also 15 cases earlier tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, while 131 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.
One laboratory was not operational on August 3, 2021 while three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the four laboratories contributed, on average, 0.7 percent of samples tested and 1.8 percent of positive individuals.
The DOH also continues to remind the public to strictly observe the Minimum Public Health Standards to ensure the safe recovery of our country. The moment any symptoms of COVID-19 are experienced, coordinate immediately with the BHERTs (Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams) or with the One COVID Referral Center.
The agency reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
