Police raided a “tupadahan” or a makeshift arena exclusively for its illegal cockfighting purposes where 9 individuals who called themselves “sabungeros” were captured in Malabon City
The chief of the Malabon City Police station Col. Angela Rejano, identified the arrestees were Pedro Lorenzo, 60, Ryan Arboleda, 35, Erickson Patinio, 42, Rene Capangpangan, 49, security guard, Ricky Misa, 35, Reynor Lelisa, 41, Rene Edozma, 29, Christopher Punzal, 24, and Ricardo Mabanan, 36.
According to report, an anonymous source ‘tipped’ off the Station Intelligence Section (SIS) operatives Police Staff Sergeants Jeric Tindugan and Jose Germinal II that an illegal cockfighting is taking place at a secluded area in the vicinity of Sitio 6, Barangay Catmon.
The SIS agents along with Malabon Police Sub-Station 4 personnel immediately responded to the scene which resulted in the arrest of the suspects inside a makeshift arena around 9:25 p.m. on Sunday while several other enthusiasts scampered from the area.
Police confiscated two dead chickens with a “tari” or “spur” attached to their legs and P4,600 cash as bet moneys.
Authorities have filed a case of violation of PD 1602 Amended by RA 9287 against the arrested suspects at the Malabon City Prosecutors Office.
