KINUMPIRMA ni Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana na tuloy ang pagtatayo ng mga cell tower ng 3rd telco player na DITO Telecommunity Corporation sa loob ng mga kampo ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
Paliwanag ni Lorenzana, bahagi ito ng memorandum of agreement (MOU) sa pagitan ng AFP at DITO Telco.
Nais aniya kasi ng DITO na makapagtayo ng cell towers sa loob ng mga kampo ng militar para sa kanilang seguridad tulad ng ginagawa ng iba pang telecommunication companies na Globe at Smart.
“Yes, I signed the contract recently because last year, when the contract reached my table, Senate also asked [for a] copy of the contract for them to scrutinize,” pahayag ni Lorenzana sa budget hearing sa House of Representatives.
“They came out with nothing naman. Wala silang complaint or any recommendation on the contract. It was returned to us and the AFP assured me that they will institute safeguards so the security of our camps will be maintained,” dagdag nito.
Gayunman, kontra si Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez sa nasabing plano at iginiit na magkaiba ang sitwasyon ng DITO Telco kumpara sa Globe at Smart.
Iginiit ni Rodriguez na apatnapung porsyento ng ownership o pagmamay-ari ng DITO ay China Telecom ng Chinese government at kaagaw ng Pilipinas sa pinagtatalunang teritoryo sa West Philippine Sea.
