A House leader has urged the public to stay focused on allegations against Vice President Sara Duterte regarding the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds, cautioning against being misled by her recent inflammatory remarks.
“Huwag po tayong magpabudol. Ang tunay na isyu rito ay ang P612.5 milyon na confidential funds na kailangang ipaliwanag ng Bise Presidente sa publiko. Hindi dapat magpadala sa mga diversionary tactics na ganito,” said House Assistant Majority Leader and Zambales 1st District Representative Jefferson “Jay” Khonghun on Saturday.
Khonghun criticized Duterte’s recent statement, which suggested the assassination of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez if she were killed. He described the remark as a blatant attempt to distract the public from pressing accountability issues.
“Instead of addressing the allegations head-on, she is creating distractions that only sow fear and division,” Khonghun stated.
The Zambales lawmaker called on the public and his fellow legislators to focus on uncovering the truth behind the controversial confidential fund allocation.
“Ang pondo ng bayan ay para sa taumbayan, hindi para sa personal na interes. The people deserve transparency and accountability, not theatrics,” he added.
Khonghun also praised Manila 3rd District Representative Joel Chua, chair of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, for his leadership in investigating the matter.
“Chair Joel Chua is doing the right thing by focusing on the real issue. Hindi dapat matabunan ang ganitong usapin,” Khonghun said.
He concluded by urging vigilance from the public. “Let’s not be distracted by these reckless remarks. The P612.5 million fund issue is too important to ignore. Huwag tayong magpabudol,” Khonghun emphasized.
The call for accountability comes as Congress scrutinizes the use of confidential and intelligence funds in the government amid public demand for greater transparency.
