As the nation celebrates Christmas, Vice President Sara Duterte emphasized the significance of forgiveness, urging Filipinos to embody love, generosity, and understanding during this season.
“The birth of Jesus is a message of forgiveness that encompasses God’s unparalleled love for all. Let us draw inspiration from His example in how we treat others, especially our family and loved ones,” Duterte shared in a heartfelt video posted on her social media account.
She called on the public to prioritize compassion over material gifts, advocating for kindness, particularly toward the less fortunate and those suffering from illness.
“More than the material things we receive this Christmas, we are encouraged to give understanding, respect, and love to each other, especially to the poor and the sick,” she said.
Duterte reminded Filipinos that the true essence of Christmas lies in practicing these virtues not just during the holidays but every day of the year.
“This is the true spirit of this season—a reminder for all of us, not only in December but in our daily lives. Once again, I extend my warmest greetings to every Filipino around the world,” she concluded.
Earlier this month, Duterte candidly admitted that forgiveness is a personal challenge for her, a statement made amidst reported tensions with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
