VP Leni calls for ceasefire in politicking amid pandemic

Believing that the war against the virulent variants of the virus is the country’s utmost priority, Vice President Leni Robredo, on Wednesday, has sought for a pause on politicking and word war exchange within the government.

In an official statement released by the Office of the Vice President, Robredo said that the amount of energy the government consumes to press down its rivals should have been maximized and used instead to effectively respond against the pandemic.

“Kung itutuon natin ang lakas natin sa pagtutulungan kaysa sa bangayan, mas marami tayong magagawa,” Robredo claimed.

(If we make use of our energy to help each other instead of quarrelling, we can do more things.)

‘Yong oras at energies na ginugugol sa pasaring at panlalait, magiging mas productive ‘yan kung itulong halimbawa sa “Bayanihan E-Konsulta” o sa iba pang COVID-related initiatives,” the Vice President added.

(It would be much more productive if our time and energies are exerted to extend help like in Bayanihan E-Konsulta or other COVID-related initiatives instead of exchanging subtle insults.)

Robredo further called for a “time out” on digging up past issues, saying that the government must initially focus on addressing the real problem and do the political delving at a latter time.

On Tuesday, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan has first asked the Duterte administration to turn away from politics and fixate its eyes instead on the woes caused by the more contagious virus and the insufficiency in providing financial aid.

Soon after the activist group’s call, the Vice President also broke her silence after President Rodrigo Duterte declared that he will be stripping off an authority of a Metro Manila mayor to provide financial aid due to the LGU’s alleged disorganized cash distribution and vaccination program.

“Sa panahong ito, wala tayong mapapala sa parinigan at bangayan. Puno ang ospital, ang daming nagkakasakit, ang dami uling nagigipit dahil di makapagtrabaho… Hindi magagamot ng awayan ang COVID patients. Hindi ‘yan ang susi para maging mas efficient ang pagbibigay ng ayuda, bakuna, at iba pang tulong sa ating mga kababayan,” Robredo emphasized.

(At this point of time, we will gain nothing if we continue insinuating and quarrelling. Hospitals are already full, a lot of people get sick, and many scarcely get money because they cannot work. Quarelling will do no good to cure COVID patients. That is not the key to make distribution of cash aid, vaccination, and other programs to help our countrymen more efficient.)
