Manila, Philippines – Vice President Sara Duterte has denied making any threats against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., despite controversy surrounding her self-designation as the “designated survivor” during the President’s third State of the Nation Address (SONA).
“I did not make an assassination threat to the President, sila lang ang may sabi nyan,” Duterte said, dismissing accusations that she posed a danger to Marcos.
The issue stems from a strongly worded press conference where the Vice President alleged that she was the target of an assassination plot. During the presser, she claimed that if she were to be killed, she had already ordered the assassinations of President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez in retaliation.
The remarks have sparked intense political debate, with critics questioning whether Duterte’s statements constitute a serious threat or political posturing amid ongoing tensions within the administration. The Palace has yet to issue a formal response to Duterte’s denial.
