The driver of the truck suspected of causing the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Bridge collapse voluntarily surrendered to the Cabagan Police Station at 7:30 a.m. today, Feb. 28.

In an interview with Radyo Pilipinas-Tuguegarao, Cabagan Police Station chief PMaj. Merwin Villanueva stated that the driver fled out of fear. According to the driver’s statement, a guard allowed him to pass, as another truck had also been permitted to cross.
The truck, loaded with heavy rocks, was en route to a construction project in Northern Isabela when the accident occurred.

Authorities, in coordination with the Bureaus of Design and Construction of the DPWH Central Office, continue to investigate the incident and assess the extent of the collapse.
