AFTER a noticeable decline in dengue cases these past months, the Department of Health (DOH) advised that its effective “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito” dengue prevention measure should continue from the communities to the schools, especially during this wet season
The DOH launched the dengue prevention campaign today at the Antipolo National High School to signal the start of the implementation of the “Taob, Taktak, Tuyo, at Takip” initiative in schools in the Philippines to destroy Aedes mosquito lairs during the rainy season.
It added that the number of dengue cases continue to decline in the past few months because of the aggressive implementation of the “Taob, Taktak, Tuyo, Takip” campaign in barangays.
“Kailangang magtuloy tuloy ang nasimulan natin sa dengue prevention. Kailangang gawin ang Taob, Taktak, Tuyo, Takip mula sa mga bahay hanggang sa mga barangay at pati sa mga eskwelahan dahil ang lamok ay lumilipat ng tirahan. Madalas nakikita natin ang pagtaas sa kaso ng dengue kapag maulan. We have to prevent this by intensifying vector control,” according to DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa.
From January to June 2025, there were 123,291 cases of Filipinos with dengue, and as many as 27,358 cases were registered in the 5-9 years old age bracket.
A slight increase in the number of dengue cases were seen these past few weeks but these are considered manageable, especially if vector control measures are strengthened. From April 27 up to May 10, the number of dengue cases reached 6,192 compared to the 6,720 cases from May 11 up to May 24.
But despite the number of cases, dengue case fatality rate was at 0.4 percent, or about four out of 1,000 patients die from the disease.
Alongside the strengthening of vector control, the DOH is also strengthening efforts to provide proper education on how to avoid dengue and other diseases, together with the Department of Education.
This is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to do everything to make all schools in the country as providers of effective education and also of good health.
