ALBAY 2nd District Representative Joey Sarte Salceda recently expressed his gratitude to the country’s economic managers and the Military and Uniformed Personnel (MUP) agencies for supporting the passage of the MUP Pension Reform Act in Congress.
The solon, who is the House of Representatives’ Committee on Ways and Means Chairman and the House’s tax chief, thanked the economic managers and the MUP agencies for the support they extended in defending the measure.
“The MUP agencies are already very happy with this reform, which also significantly improves our fiscal position. It also makes the fiscal risks of the MUP pension system very predictable.”
He said that they were able to satisfy the three guarantees they gave in exchange for the sacrifice MUP were willing to make for the reform, which are guaranteed salary increase, guaranteed pension increase, and guaranteed funding sources.
“As I said, this is a social compact, between MUP agencies, the taxpayers as represented by the economic team, and the people at large — brokered by Speaker Martin Romualdez at the President’s instruction.”
He likewise revealed that MUP retirees, active personnel, and agencies, made manifestations to him, calling the landmark reform “a morale boost.”
He added that the President also emphasized in the most recent Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) meeting that the country needs this reform.
Salceda also thanked Senator Jinggoy Estrada, his Senate counterpart, who also filed a bill that Salceda says he largely agrees with — and has publicly defended. “I am optimistic that both Houses will have a version this time around.”
“I would also like to thank President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and Speaker Romualdez for the trust and confidence,” he added.
