THE Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that it had already received an additional Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for an additional dose of COVID-19 vaccine booster.
The FDA recognized that there is already waning immunity in specific populations.
The second booster dose will be administered to all senior citizens 60 years old and above and also to the immunocompromised and frontline healthcare workers.
This additional booster shall be given at least four months after the first booster. For moderately and severely immunocompromised patients, the second booster could be given earlier subject to the attending physician’s assessment.
The National COVID-19 Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) is now drafting guidelines for implementation of the second booster dose roll-out.
