SB Finance Marks Five Years of Empowering Filipinos Through Responsible Lending

SB Finance, a joint venture between Thailand’s Krungsri and the Philippines’ Security Bank, is celebrating its fifth anniversary by reaffirming its commitment to empowering everyday Filipinos through responsible, transparent, and practical financial solutions.

Established in 2020 during one of the most challenging periods in recent history, SB Finance was built with a mission to make credit accessible while promoting financial literacy and responsible borrowing. Over the past five years, the company has become a trusted name in consumer lending, serving a diverse range of Filipinos — from small business owners and employees to families seeking to improve their homes and livelihoods.

SB Finance’s foundation rests on the combined strengths of Krungsri’s global expertise in consumer finance and Security Bank’s strong local presence. Early on, the company focused on responsible lending through sound underwriting, transparent pricing, and efficient, respectful customer service. By 2021, just a year after its founding, SB Finance achieved a positive full-year net income, a rare feat for a young financial institution. This success validated its belief that inclusion, responsibility, and sustainability could go hand in hand. Backed by a PHP3-billion capital infusion from its shareholders, the company strengthened its balance sheet and positioned itself for long-term growth.

In 2022, SB Finance launched MotorsikLOAN, a product designed to help Filipinos gain mobility and livelihood opportunities. The loan offers financing for brand-new or repossessed motorcycles, bundled with non-life insurance for added security. For customers like working mother Anna Laika Santos, the program has been life-changing, allowing her to save time on daily commutes while enjoying peace of mind knowing her loan came with fair terms and protection.

Following this success, the company introduced eSALAD, a salary advance loan aimed at providing employees with a responsible alternative for managing short-term cash needs. With clear repayment schedules and transparent interest rates, eSALAD helps borrowers avoid hidden charges and predatory lending practices. For clients like student-entrepreneur Dennison Chiong, eSALAD made it possible to pay tuition in full while maintaining steady cash flow for his small business.

SB Finance’s Personal Loan has also become one of its flagship offerings, providing collateral-free financing for a wide range of needs — from home improvement to business expansion. Entrepreneurs like hardware store owner Dane Pabatang in Agusan del Norte have used it to expand operations and strengthen logistics, showing how responsible credit can drive local economic growth.

Meanwhile, the company’s OR/CR for Cash product, formerly Car4Cash, allows vehicle owners to use their car registration as collateral while continuing to use their vehicles. For business owners like Alphy Paquiz, this product has provided flexible access to working capital, keeping operations smooth even during uneven cash cycles.

Beyond financing, SB Finance has made financial literacy a core part of its mission. In 2024 alone, it reached more than 135,000 Filipinos through structured financial education sessions held both online and in communities. The company also partnered with financial advocate Salve Ibañez to launch the “Utang Manual,” a practical guide to responsible borrowing.

SB Finance has received numerous awards for its innovation and customer-focused approach, including Best Digital Consumer Lending in the Philippines from The Asian Banker and Best Loan Offering for eSALAD at the Retail Banker International Asia Trailblazer Awards. Its “Tambike sa SB Finance” campaign also won a Silver Stevie® Award for Marketing Campaign of the Year in Financial Services.

To date, SB Finance has activated over 500,000 loan accounts nationwide and disbursed nearly PHP50 billion in total loans, growing at an annual rate of 25%. The company’s network of partner banks has doubled, enabling broader access to financing across the country.

As it enters its next phase, SB Finance is steering its growth toward sustainability. The company has launched new initiatives under its Personal Loan product to finance solar panel installations, while MotorsikLOAN now includes financing for e-trikes to support cleaner and more cost-efficient transportation.
