Romualdez pledges support for AFP, proposes daily allowance increase for Soldiers

SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez reaffirmed his commitment to bolstering the welfare of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) under his leadership of the House of Representatives. Among his proposals is an additional ₱350 daily subsistence allowance for soldiers, reflecting his dedication to enhancing military personnel’s well-being.

The Speaker made this assurance during a courtesy call by 17 generals and senior flag officers of the AFP at his office on Tuesday.

The delegation, endorsed by Camiguin Rep. Jurdin Jesus “JJ” Romualdo, included top-ranking AFP officials who highlighted the military’s key priorities and challenges. Present were Lt. Gen. Jimmy D. Larida, AFP Deputy Chief of Staff; Lt. Gen. Augustine S. Malinit, AFP Inspector General; Rear Adm. Jose Ma. Ambrosio E. Ezpeleta, newly appointed Philippine Navy Chief; Rear Adm. Alan M. Javier, Chief of Naval Staff; and Maj. Gen. Adonis Ariel G. Orio, new 8th Infantry (Storm Troopers) Division Chief.

Speaker Romualdez stressed the need for adequate resources to enable the AFP to safeguard national security and maintain peace and order. He assured the delegation that the House of Representatives would work closely with AFP leadership to address critical concerns, including operational funding, modernization initiatives, and the welfare of military personnel.

“The House remains steadfast in its commitment to provide the necessary support for our Armed Forces, ensuring they have the tools and resources to fulfill their mandate effectively,” Romualdez stated.
