The Valenzuela City Police Office (VCPO) apprehended a robbery suspect moments after shooting his victim who is now in critical condition at a hospital.

Valenzuela Police Sub Station 2 personnel led by Police Major Edwin Fuertes managed to track down 39-year-old suspect Ariston Vargas Jr., alyas “King” of no. 28 Bustamante St. Barangay Tinajeros in Malabon City.

His victim Julius Cubid, 36, a resident of General T. De Leon, Valenzuela City, underwent surgery at the city’s general hospital due to bullet wounds to the chest and still under observation by his physicians.

According to Valenzuela Police Chief Col. Fernando Ortega, around 12:50 at dawn Sunday, October 25, the victim with a female friend, went out to buy snacks at a store along Urutia St. when suddenly Vargas approached them and declared a hold-up while holding a .45 caliber pistol.

But Cubid responded with a fight grabbing the gun and scuffles in middle of the sidewalk until Vargas got the chance to pull the trigger hitting the former several times in the chest.

Reports also said that Cubid’s friends came to rescue and managed to tackle, punching Vargas but eventually he escaped and threatened to shoot them.

But an hour after the incident, police have captured Vargas in a follow up operation while he was striding along a street not far from the incident.

Police have seized the .45 caliber pistol from Vargas that was used in shooting Cubid.
