During the 8th Regional Competitiveness Summit, the National Competitiveness Council (NCC) disclosed the annual results of the 2020 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) that saw the Rizal LGUs among those which achieved competitive advantage and inclusive growth in the country through its full participation in improving ease and cost of doing business, governance, and business environment.

Taytay, Angono and Binangonan received sterling grades in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index, which measured competitiveness at the local government level using 28 indicators grouped into three equally-weighted pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, and Infrastructure. Scores on each pillar were combined to form the overall score used to rank cities and municipalities.

In a joint statement, Gacula, Calderon ang Ynares cited the Department of Trade and Industry, the Board of Investments, the National Economic Development Authority for acknowledging their hard work in imposing measures which proved effective in easing doing business in their locality as reflected in the influx of investments in the municipality known as the “Garments Caputal of the Philippines.”

“True enough, knowing the true measure of competitiveness will attract businessmen and investors. And we’re glad to have been measured by these agencies. Now we are 100 percent sure we are doing the right thing and headed to the right direction,” their statement reads.

Top national government officials highlighted the significant contribution of the LGUs to the national economy. They also underscored the role of government agencies at different levels as well as the role of private sectors and development partners in contributing to inclusive growth in the country.

The results highlight the importance of being competitive in several factors, especially those which are closely examined by potential investors, who are particularly keen on the data in the form of economic indicators about places where they intend to put up business.

“We are so happy with the results. We just made sure that we were able to gather all the data and the most important is that we transform this data into something significant for the people. We will have to sustain this by preparing and enhancing more our work in Taytay. And one thing is for sure, we will try to live up with the people’s expectations from us,” the mayors concluded.
