Radio broadcaster shot dead in Bislig City

BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur — A local radio broadcaster was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen on Monday morning, July 21, in Barangay Mangagoy.

The victim, Erwin Segovia, widely known on-air as “Boy Pana,” was riding his motorcycle near the Bislig City Water District at around 7:00 a.m. when he was ambushed. Responding police officers said Segovia sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

Segovia was a veteran commentator for dxCB 98.5 FM and hosted the program Diritsahan ni Boy Pana, where he regularly discussed political issues and local controversies.

Investigators are still working to determine the motive for the killing. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting eyewitness accounts. A special investigation task group may be created to fast-track the probe.

Police have not ruled out the possibility that the killing was work-related, given Segovia’s role as a media practitioner.

The local government and media organizations have condemned the attack and called for a swift and thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
